Activities to Help Workers Balance Work and Family LifeEducational Activities on Balancing Work and Family LifeThe JIWE engages in publicity and public education activities and provides training courses for those who wish to promote greater balance in work and family lives, thereby helping to foster a social environment that facilitates the balancing of work and family lives. Fure-Fure (20-20) Telephone ProgramThe Fure-Fure (20-20) Telephone Program provides specific, local information over the phone on childcare services (daycare centers, after-school children's clubs and other childcare services, childcare supporters who will deliver children to and from daycare centers and provide other assistance), family care services, housekeeping services, etc.
Assistance for Those Registering Their Desire for ReemploymentPersons leaving their jobs because of pregnancy, birth, childcare or family care may register their desire for future reemployment with the JIWE, making them eligible for the following forms of assistance: 1) provision of information, 2) “Re-Be Work Seminars,” and 3) individual consultations and other support for reemployment preparations. Re-Be Work Seminars (Reemployment Preparation Seminars) Persons registering their desire for reemployment are eligible to attend seminars providing the basic knowledge required to prepare for reemployment. Re-Challenge Support Program The JIWE provides individual consultations, support for the formulation of “re-challenge plans” and work experience programs to provide systematic assistance for persons preparing for reemployment. Programs are available in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Osaka and Hyogo (FY 2005). Subsidy ProgramsThe JIWE provides a variety of subsidies to employers and employer organizations that support employees trying to balance work and family life. Childcare/Family Care Subsidy When employers give employees who hire babysitters or housekeepers to provide child care or family care subsidies to cover these expenses. On-Site Daycare Facility Subsidy When employers establish and operate daycare facilities for their employees on their premises. Subsidies for the Recruitment of Substitute Employees, Etc. during Child Care Leave When employers recruit substitute employees for employees granted child care leave and then return employees taking child care leave to their former positions, etc. Grants to Support Balance between Work and Family Life When employers create shortened working hour systems, flextime systems, and other systems for more flexible work for workers caring for children who have not yet reached elementary school-age and workers make use of these systems. Subsidies to Promote the Participation of Male Workers in Child Care When employers implement model programs to promote the taking of child care leave by male employees and receive designation from a head of the JIWE branch offices. Grants for the Implementation of Programs to Facilitate Return to Work after Child / Family Care Leave When employers adopt measures to facilitate the smooth return to work by workers who have taken child care leave or family care leave. |
