History of the JIWE

April 1, 1986

Law Respecting the Improvement of the Welfare of Women Workers, Including the Guarantee of Equal Opportunity and Treatment between Men and Women in Employment (Equal Employment Opportunity Law) enters effect.

April 21, 1986

Established as the Japan Institute for Women's Employment (a nonprofit foundation approved by the Minister of Labour).

April 1, 1993

Name changed to the Japan Institute of Workers' Evolution following approval by the Minister of Labour.

December 1, 1993

Law Concerning the Improvement of Employment Management, etc. of Part-time Workers (Part-time Work Law) enters effect.

April 1, 1994

Designation by the Minister of Labour as a 'part-time work support center' under the Part-time Work Law.

October 1, 1995

Designation by the Minister of Labour as an the incorporated foundation under the Law Concerning the Welfare of Workers Who Take Care of Children or Other Family Members Including Child Care and Family Care Leave (Child Care and Family Care Leave Law) which enters effect the same day.
